Case Study:

Designing AccessPro

A No-Code Accessibility Solution

Overview

AccessPro is a no-code solution designed to make websites ADA and WCAG compliant without requiring redevelopment. This widget allows users to select from a wide range of accessibility options and profiles, ensuring a positive browsing experience for everyone.

As the Lead Product Designer, I was responsible for conducting research, managing a team of designers, and executing the UI/UX design. Our goal was to create a seamless customizable and accessible experience while adhering to strict compliance regulations.

Project Goals

  • Was customizable to fit multiple website brands

  • Offered multiple user impairment options while maintaining readability

  • Ensured ADA & WCAG compliance

  • Integrated seamlessly with existing native accessibility apps

  • Provided an intuitive user experience without unnecessary complexit

We set out to design an interface that:

The Process

Discovery & Research

To create an effective accessibility solution, we conducted extensive research:

  • User Interviews: We spoke with business owners to understand their accessibility pain points and the challenges they faced in compliance.

  • User Testing: We gathered feedback from real users facing accessibility challenges, ensuring the interface met their needs.

  • Competitive Analysis: We analyzed existing competitor solutions to identify areas where AccessPro could excel.

Design challenges

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the widget interface remained accessible without negatively affecting user experience.

  • Balancing Accessibility & UI Design: Making sure accessibility features didn’t clutter or disrupt the interface.

  • Simplifying User Interaction: Users with visual, cognitive, or motor impairments needed an effortless way to enable multiple accessibility options at once.

Customization Across Brands: Ensuring the widget could be adapted to different branding styles without losing its core usability

Design systems & execution

To ensure consistency, we developed and implemented a comprehensive branding guideline and performed regular UI design language reviews.

  • Scalable UI System: Designed a modular system that allowed for easy customization while maintaining accessibility standards.

  • Accessibility Profiles: Instead of users manually selecting individual options, we introduced pre-configured "Accessibility Profiles" that automatically triggered multiple settings to suit common impairments.

Seamless UI/UX Flow: Ensured that every feature was easy to discover, activate, and adjust without confusion.

Collaboration & Iteration

As the Lead Product Designer, I facilitated cross-functional collaboration:

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Led multiple meetings with team members and stakeholders to ensure our design decisions aligned with both business goals and compliance requirements.

  • User Testing & Refinement: Conducted multiple rounds of usability testing, identifying responsive design issues and improving the user experience based on feedback.

One key improvement was simplifying the interface by implementing Accessibility Profiles, which eliminated the need for users to manually select each setting—reducing friction and increasing adoption rates.

Outcome & Impact

The AccessPro web app launched successfully on the Shopify App Store, achieving:

500+ installs within the first 3 months
80% retention rate after 8 weeks
✅ Positive feedback from users praising its ease of use and effectiveness

This project not only provided businesses with a hassle-free way to meet accessibility requirements, but it also demonstrated the power of a user-first design approach in solving complex compliance challenges.

Key Takeaways

🔹 Always prioritize user experience at every stage of the design process.
🔹 Reduce friction by simplifying user flows and eliminating unnecessary steps.
🔹 Accessibility should never be an afterthought—it should be an integral part of the design system.

AccessPro was a testament to how great UX and accessibility can coexist without compromise, and it reinforced my belief in designing solutions that truly empower all users
